Manipur Unrest: CM N Biren Singh visits Kwakta IED blast site

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Friday visited Kwakta in Bishnupur district of Manipur where an IED explosion took place on Wednesday night inside a SUV that left an eight-year-old boy and two teenagers seriously wounded.
This is the first time that the Chief Minister has visited any violence hit place outside Imphal since violence broke out in the state on May 3.
During his visit, the Chief Minister assessed the situation on ground.
On June 21, armed militants exploded a car bomb at Kwakta. The intensity of the blast was such that it left a big hole on the road and as per the locals the impact of the blast was felt up to 100 metres from the blast spot.
According to security sources, the IED was planted inside an SUV that was parked near a culvert between Kwakta Ward number 7 and Phou-gak-chao.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by PWD Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Moirang assembly constituency MLA Th Shanti, MLA Kunjakeshore and MLA Kh Loken Singh.
After his Kwakta visit, the Chief Minister visited Moirang, also in Manipur’s Bishnupur district. Moirang, which is adjacent to Kwakta, is housing the maximum number of displaced persons. Over 500 Internally Displaced People (IDPs) are taking shelter in the relief camps in Moirang.
The Chief Minister identified the land where prefabricated houses can be built to accommodate hundreds of displaced people who fled Churachandpur district at the outbreak of the communal clash.
