Manipur unrest: 175 killed, 1108 injured in 4 months, says State Police

96 bodies are still unclaimed and are lying in the morgues of hospitals in Churachandpur
A total of 175 people were killed, 1,108 injured, and 32 are missing during the 4 month long violence in Manipur, said State Police.
Revealing the indicative figures, Inspector General of Police (IGP), IK Muivah informed that out of 175 lives lost, 166 victims have been identified so far, 96 bodies are still unclaimed and are lying in the morgues of hospitals in Churachandpur.
The police informed that as many as 5,172 arson cases were reported since the begining of the violence in the state on May 3, 2023.
A total of 4,786 houses were set on fire and 386 religious structures – 254 churches and 132 temples – were vandalised.
A whopping 9,332 FIRs have been registered in the state since the beginning of the unrest and only 325 people were arrested.
The state police and security personnel lost around 5,668 arms, over 6.6 lakh ammunition and over 14 thousand bombs to mobs and miscreants during the period from May 3rd to September 13th. Out of these 1,359 arms and 15,050 ammunition has been recovered. 360 Bunkers destroyed have been destroyed in the state so far, said Police.
