The Manipur Congress is on a mission mode to secure an absolute majority in the impending elections.
Former Chief Minister and CLP leader Okram Ibobi Singh kicked off the party campaign in the key Singjamei Assembly Constituency, where Manipur Congress vice-president and former assembly speaker Irengbam Hemochandra Singh is in the fray.
Hemochandra Singh is up against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate and Assembly Speaker Yumnam Khemchand Singh.
After kicking off the campaign in the constituency, Ibobi Singh took part in a flag hoisting ceremony.
Talking exclusively to Northeast Live, Ibobi Singh exuded confidence and said that Congress will get an absolute majority.
Ibobi was also critical of the BJP for allegedly trying to deprive Congress of all credit when it comes to the development and progress of the state.
Meanwhile, Singjamei Congress candidate I. Hemochandra Singh exuded confidence that the Congress will bounce back this time.
The tremendous response from the people indicated that the Congress is back, said Hemochandra.
Manipur will go for polls in two phases. The first phase will be held on February 28 and the second on March 5.
The vote counting will take place on March 10.
