In some good news for the people of Saikul in violence-hit Manipur, MLA of the constituency, Kimneo Haokip Hangshing on Tuesday inaugurated the May Road giving a fillip to road infrastructure and connectivity in the area.
The 15 km long road, said to be the lifeline of Saikul, will not connect Saikul Sub Division with the rest of the country via the National Highway 2 without a hitch.
Though the road is yet to be blacktopped, the Finance Department formed under Kuki Inpi Saikul took the initiative to make the road motorable to provide better connectivity.
The road was named May Road to remember the reconciliation of the Kuki-Zo community after the Manipur mayhem in May.
After inaugurating the road, the MLA who is the youngest legislator of Manipur, expressed her grief that several road development projects under various ministries could not come be completed due to the ongoing violence in the state.
She also encouraged the civil bodies of Saikul constituency to continue working collectively for public welfare and humanitarian aid.
