Manipur Landslide: Search operations to be called off from tomorrow

If no more bodies are recovered by 6 PM tomorrow, 5 people will be listed missing in the devastating landslide.

The search and rescue operations at the Tupul disaster site in Manipur’s Noney district will be officially called off tomorrow at 6 pm.

This was decided after a review meeting today chaired by Manipur Disaster Management and Relief Minister Awangbow Newmai.

Officials of the Army, NDRF, SDRF, and local villagers and CSO s were present at the meeting. In the meeting, the local villagers and CSO s stated that the search operations should be permanently called off and it may be done today.

But it was decided that the operations shall continue as it is till 6 PM tomorrow when it will be officially called off.

If no more bodies are recovered by 6 PM tomorrow, 5 people will be listed missing in the devastating landslide ever recorded in the history of Manipur.

Meanwhile, 56 bodies have been recovered so far from the landslide site, while 5 others are still missing.

Most of the victims of the landslide are laborers and personnel of the 107th infantry battalion of the Territorial Army.

Heavy and incessant rains have hindered the rescue operations in the landslide-hit area.

Notably, a multi-agency search and rescue operation involving the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, Territorial Army, SDRF, and NDRF is underway at the tragedy struck Tupul area in the Noney district of Manipur.

This sophisticated device is ‘Through Wall Imaging Radar’.Through Wall Imaging Radar (TWIR) is a sensor used for the detection and location of static and moving targets, especially human beings behind walls.
