The CM said that the roadblocks were putting the lives of people including pregnant women at risk
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Thursday made an earnest appeal to the people of the state not to block roads as such things have been putting lives of people including those of expecting mothers and their child at risk by delaying or holding back the movement of relief material, essentials and life-saving drugs.
“Such roadblocks are increasing the hardship of our already traumatised people in relief camps, including pregnant women and young children by halting movement of health personnel, medicine, food, milk and water meant for them,” the Chief minister said in his appeal.
He also highlighted that these roadblocks were restricting the movement of security and police personnel from promptly responding to attacks by armed groups.
“In order to save lives and property of innocent civilians, and to assuage the hardship faced in relief camps, I appeal to the people of Manipur not to cause roadblocks and hindrances on free movement of security personnel and relief material,” the CM requested.
The Chief Minister also appealed to all those who had stolen arms and ammunitions from the armouries and from security forces over the past few days to return the same. The Manipur Chief Minister cautioned that appropriate action will be taken as per the Arms Act 1959 against those found to be in unauthorized and illegal possession of arms and ammunition during combing operations by forces.
The CM’s appeal follows the appeal made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah today, the last day of his 4-day visit to the violence-hit state.
