International badminton player Lakshya Sen became the first Indian to win an Indian Open men’s singles title on his debut in the tournament.

On Sunday (January 16) in New Delhi, Lakshya Sen upset world champion Loh Kean Yew of Singapore, 24-22, 21-17, in the final. Sen defeated Loh Kean Yew, who had won a surprise World Championship by defeating Kidambi Srikanth in December. On the Badminton World Federation (BWF) tour, this is Lakshya’s first Super 500 victory.

Taking to Twitter, Sports Authority of India (SAI) wrote, “LAKSHYA SEN @lakshya_sen wins his debut #IndiaOpen2022 Men’s Singles Title. He defeats 2021 @bwfmedia World Champion Flag of Singapore’s @reallohkeanyew in straight games (24-22, 21-17) to win the event. Flexed biceps. Way to go!! Congratulations #IndianSports #IndiaKaregaSmash #IndiaOpenSuper500.”

The 20-year-old had previously won bronze in the 2021 World Championships after losing in the semi-final to Srikanth.
