Former Assam Minister Haji Abdur Rauf Chaudhury and his wife Farhana were detained by police for allegedly assaulting a girl child labour in Hojai district of Assam.
After a video showing Farhana brutally beating the minor girl with a stick and Haji Abdur Rauf Chaudhury watching the act while sitting on a sofa went viral on social media, police swung into action and rescued the victim girl and detained the couple for questioning.
Farhana said that she adopted the child a year ago to give her a better life and education, but the girl never used to study nor pay attention in classes at her school.
“One day her school complained to me about how inattentive she is in class. So I beat her and filmed the video intentionally, and sent her back to the person she had been adopted from, said Farhana. She said that her husband had no idea about the video she filmed.
Former Minister Haji Abdur Rauf Chaudhury also said that he had no idea about the video and that whatever happened is very unfortunate and nobody should do such a thing.
A local said that the couple adopted the child to give better education and live as she lost her father at an early age and the economic condition of her family was not good.
The mother of the victim alleged that although they claimed to give the child a better life and an education, they actually forced her into child labour. She demanded justice for her child.
