Manipur’s Christmas celebrations were shattered by violence as armed clashes broke out early this morning in the border areas of Imphal East and Kangpokpi district. Residents of Sinam Kom village in Imphal East woke up around 6:30 AM to the terrifying sounds of heavy gunfire and bombs being launched from the Kangpokpi Hills.
The attacks, reportedly carried out by armed miscreants from Kangpokpi, targeted Sinam Kom and nearby villages, leaving the local population in fear and chaos instead of festive cheer.
In response to the assault, security forces stationed in the border areas launched a strong counterattack, engaging in intense crossfire with the miscreants. As of now, the situation remains tense, with the exchange of fire continuing between the two sides.
This violent disruption comes as the rest of the world celebrates Christmas, praying for peace and goodwill. Authorities have yet to provide an official statement or a casualty report, but the escalating violence has left residents deeply shaken.
