The ENPO has resolved to relax its August 26 Resolution and urged people to cooperate in the smooth conduct of polls

In a big sigh of relief to the central and state governments and the intending candidates, the ENPO has resolved to relax its August 26 Resolution and urged people to cooperate with the authorities in the smooth conduct of polls.

The decision to relax its resolution was adopted during an Executive meeting held in Dimapur today. Uncertainty continued for months with the ENPO standing firm on its decision to boycott the polls in the eastern areas. The ENPO decided to relax its boycott resolution following a request and subsequent assurance from the MHA of finding a mutually agreed solution to its demand after the elections. Based on the assurance of the MHA, the ENPO has directed its constituent Tribal Bodies and Frontal Organisations to ensure free and fair polls in the larger interest of democracy. The ENPO further urged all its citizens to cooperate with the government and ensure the peaceful conduct of elections within its jurisdiction.

Taking to Twitter, Home Minister Shah lauded the ENPO for its decision stating that the move will ‘help’ in keeping the process of peace and development unhindered.
