The book also claims that China has funded scores of separatist and militant groups in the Northeast region, with the aim of destabilizing the area.

A new book titled “Modi’s Bharat: A Decade of Achievements” has made startling claims about China’s involvement in funding separatist and militant groups in India’s Northeast region, particularly in Manipur.

According to the book, China is allegedly funding several militant groups in Manipur. The state has 34 ethnic-based militant groups including those from the Meitei, Kuki, and Naga communities, many of which are purportedly funded by China.

The book by Amit Bagaria and Savio Rodrigues claims that China has had designs on India’s Northeast region since 1947 and is trying to convince locals that they are not Indians, but rather culturally similar to China.

The book also claims that China has funded scores of separatist and militant groups in the Northeast region, with the aim of destabilizing the area.

It also attributed the Manipur violence to a proxy war orchestrated by China. They connect this to a massive Rs 70,000 crore narcotics trade, suggesting that China uses drug trafficking as a tool to fund and sustain insurgent activities.

The authors claim that Myanmar migrants have added to the tension in Manipur, with over 40,000 illegal immigrants living in Mizoram and over 4,500 in Manipur.

Similar claims about China’s involvement in Northeast insurgencies have been made in the past as well. For instance, a 2020 report noted suggested Chinese support for groups like ULFA and NSCN along the India-Myanmar border.
