The budget session of the Assam Legislative Assembly began from Monday. There will be fourteen working days in the session. Finance minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma will table the state budget on March 6.
This will be the last full fledged budget that the BJP-led state government will table before the state goes to polls next year.
The budget session’s calendar has been revised because of the Rajya Sabha elections on March 26. The session will be held for 14 working days and will continue till March 30.
Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami is scheduled to announce the report of the business advisory committee setting the business for the budget session of the assembly.
Among other issues, the Opposition is likely to take up the issue of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, delimitation of constituencies and the definition of the term ‘Assamese’ or the indigenous people of the state as per Clause 6 of the Assam Accord to corner the government.
