Boy dies of electrocution at Dr Bhupen Hazarika Samadhikshetra, memorial shut for visitors

The boy got electrocuted after touching the fountain water inside the venue
In a tragic incident, a 16-year-old boy died after getting electrocuted at the Dr Bhupen Hazarika Samadhikshetra in Jalukbari area of Guwahati.
The boy identified as Subham Kumar Roy, had gone to visit the memorial of the Bard of Brahmaputra with his family.
He touched the water of the fountain and got electrocuted. He was rushed to a nearby hospital immediately, however, he died at the hospital.
Subham who hailed from Dhubri district of Assam, was staying in BBC colony in Pandu, Maligaon.
It has been suspected that Subham’s electrocution may have been caused by loose wiring or a leak in the foot lamps near the water fountain.
The memorial has been sealed off, and shut for visitors and PWD Electrical Officials have been directed to investigate any potential internal wiring problems that may have caused to the incident.
An investigation into the matter is underway to ascertain the actual reason behind the incident.
