Notably, a team of Meghalaya Police will set off today Uttar Pradesh to take custody of Bernard Marak.

Marak was apprehended when he was travelling in a hired vehicle. The arrest came in less than 24 hours after a countrywide lookout notice was issued for his arrest.

And reacting to the development, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has called for not politicizing the issue.

CM Sangma said that the police had gathered very strong evidence in this case and have acted accordingly. He also said that it is a sensitive matter and all must exercise responsibility

The Meghalaya CM also said that this development does not puts the current government in a state of jeopardy. Here CM Sangma once again appealed not to politicize the matter unnecessarily.

Earlier on Tuesday, speaking exclusively to Northeast Live Chief, Meghalaya DGP LR Bishnoi said that sufficient evidence has been collected against Marak based on which the CJM court in Tura has issued a non-bailable warrant against him.

Responding to a query on the political twist to the case and the allegation by the Tura MDC that the state police planned to gun him down, DGP Bishnoi said the police are strictly proceeding as per law.
