The successful operation was led by Dy SP STF Satyendra Singh Hazari under the supervision of IGP STF Parthasarathi Mahanta.
In a major breakthrough, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police has arrested another jihadi operative, further intensifying its crackdown on extremist networks.
The accused, identified as Abu Salam Ali from Khudigaon Part-II in Bilasipara, Dhubri district, was apprehended in Chennai today.
With this latest arrest, the STF has now taken 16 operatives into custody from Assam, West Bengal, Kerala, and Chennai, marking a significant achievement in dismantling terror networks. Abu Salam Ali is an active member of the Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) and Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen, with close links to previously arrested extremists from Kokrajhar and Dhubri.
Ali had been absconding since 17 December 2024 and was involved in a conspiracy to strengthen extremist factions. Investigations reveal that he worked in close coordination with Nur Islam Mandal and Shahinur Islam to expand jihadi operations.
The successful operation was led by Dy SP STF Satyendra Singh Hazari under the supervision of IGP STF Parthasarathi Mahanta.
The STF’s relentless efforts have led to multiple arrests in recent months. On 21 January 2025, jihadi operative Ajibar Rahman (31) was arrested from Dhubri. Two days earlier, on 19 January, the STF apprehended Jaher Ali, who had been disguising himself as an auto-rickshaw driver in Bilasipara, Dhubri.
On 30 December 2024, security forces arrested Gazi Rahman (35) from Bhodeyaguri, Kokrajhar. He was the prime suspect in a terror plot targeting leaders of *RSS and other Hindu organisations.
In December 2024, a nationwide intelligence-led operation involving the West Bengal and Kerala Police* led to the arrest of eight fundamentalist jihadis, including a Bangladeshi national, in Kerala. This operation exposed a terror module planning attacks in India.
The STF also conducted a raid on 25 December 2024 in collaboration with Kokrajhar Police, arresting Abdul Zaher Sheikh and Sabbir Mirdhafrom Namapara. Two days later, an ABT operative was arrested in Dhubri.
With 16 extremists now behind bars, the STF’s investigation continues to uncover the full extent of the terror network.
