Assam's Lona Sonowal bags silver medal in weightlifting (45 kg category) at 66th National School Sports Festival (Under 19) in New Delhi
In a proud moment for Assam, Lona Sonowal, a class IX student of Batgharia Higher Secondary School in Dhemaji bagged a silver medal in weightlifting (45 kg category) at the 66th National School Sports Festival (Under 19) in New Delhi today.
Education Minister Ranoj Pegu extended his heartfelt congratulations to Lona Sonowal for her excellent performance in the prestigious event. He also appreciated the coaches, Anup Konwar, Shantanu Gogoi, and Parbati Tamang, for their outstanding guidance and support that contributed to Lona’s success.
Taking to Twitter, Pegu wrote, “Heartiest congratulations to Lona Sonowal, a class IX student of Batgharia Higher Secondary School in Dhemaji for winning the silver medal at Weightlifting (45 kg category) at the 66th National School Sports Festival (Under 19) in New Delhi today. Kudos to coaches Shri Anup Konwar, Shri Shantanu Gogoi & Smt. Parbati Tamang for this stupendous performance.”
National School games are being organised by the School Games Federation of India after about three years due to the Covid pandemic. The event is being jointly organized by the Madhya Pradesh Government School Education Department in collaboration with the Sports and Youth Welfare Department. Participants from various states, union territories, and allied units showcased their talent and sportsmanship in this highly anticipated competition.
