Arunachal: Search operation for missing mountaineer Tapi Mra and Niku Dao called off

First Published: 26th August, 2023 8:21 IST

They had to come back from Mt. Khayarii Satam due to bad weather conditions

The team of 14 searchers, led by Everette Tagit Sorang and including Yatok Mra Nilo, the sister of the missing mountaineer Tapi Mra, has called off their search operation.

They had to come back from Mt. Khayarii Satam due to bad weather conditions, which made it unsafe to continue searching.

Although eight experts managed to reach the suspected area, only a thermo plastic was discovered. The search went on for three days in that particular area.

Yatok Mra, Tapi Mra’s sister, expressed that the state government didn’t provide enough financial help for the search operation.

The search efforts had to be halted because of weather challenges and various difficulties faced during the operation.

The search team embarked on the search operation for missing mountaineers Tapi Mra and Niku Dao on July 18.

Earlier, Tapi Mra’s sister, Yatok had informed Northeast Live that initially the search was to begin on July 1 but was delayed due to lack of funds and proper logistics.

It may be mentioned here that Mra and Dao went missing on August 17 August 2022 while attempting to scale Mt Khyarii Satam in the East Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh.

The Indian Army had called off the search operation on September 21, 2022, citing poor visibility and inclement weather.
