Several groups and organisations in Arunachal Pradesh today paid rich tributes to Gyamar Padang, the whistleblower in the APPSC paper leak case, on the occasion of his first death anniversary.

The occasion was observed as the Day of Honesty where well wishers paid tributes to Gyamar Padang by congregating at his residence.

Members of the Pan Arunachal Joint Steering Committee (PAJSC), Gyamar Tana, General Secretary of the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee, and Bamang Tago, Secretary-General of the Arunachal Olympics Association, among others were present.

Sharing his thoughts, PAJSC chairman Techi Puru expressed his sheer displeasure over the ongoing investigations into the paper leak case.

According to Puru there has been inordinate delay in the probe, which he feels should have been over by now.

The PAJSC chairman who has least expectations from the ongoing probe said, “If we say about the ongoing CBI investigation, I do not see any hope. A lot could have been investigated within 2 years, because irregularities happened in multiple examinations and not only in 1 examination. The system is also such that it will not take time to dig out things. I think investigations should have been over by now, so I do not see any hope.”

Not only this, the PAJSC has decided that it will try further to pursue the matter of erecting the “Statue of Honesty” to honour Gyamar Padang. Techi Puru said that the PAJSC will once again reach out to the government on this. The PAJSC Chairman is of the idea that doing so will spread the message of Gyamar Padang’s honesty and selfless dedication in wiping out corruption from the society.

Puru said, “We have been demanding for the Statue of Honesty. We had chosen a location at 6 Kilo, which is a barren land along the highway. His sacrifices should not go in vain, because he always stuck to the idea of honesty is the best policy. Taking it to be a prime location, we have placed the demand before the government. But since it is near to the highway, we sought for different locations like the APPSC office or wherever it might be, a message must be sent by erecting the Statue of Honesty. CM Khandu too had mentioned once or twice that the Statue of Honesty must be built. But when and where to construct the statue, everything will be decided by the government.”

“But when an opposite message goes, when a person raises his or her voice (against corruption) and gets suspended, curtailing voices by booking individuals under APUAPA, I think such actions will only send a wrong message,” Techi Puru further said.

PAJSC member Techi Rana also expressed his unhappiness over delay in fully resolving the paper leak case and said, “We never thought that the APPSC paper leak scam will be dragged on for months and even years. Even today our commitment remains the same, which is that the paper leak issue must be resolved at the earliest. But due to the lack of the political will of the government this issues is still lingering for more than 2 years from now. We shall forever remain committed to wipe out corruption, for the sake of giving a better shape to the society. Every organisation or individual must come forward so that we can collectively fight for the cause.”

Gyamar Padang, who exposed the APPSC paper leak scam, breathed his last on May 5th, 2023, at the Asian Institution Gastroenterology Hospital in Hyderabad after battling a prolonged illness.
On August 28, 2022, Gyamar Padang filed an FIR regarding the APPSC paper leak scam at the Itanagar police station.
