Arunachal Pradesh has recorded the best sex ratio in the country compared to other states as per the 2018 report on “vital statistics of India based on the Civil Registration System.

The sex ratio at birth is the number of females born per thousand males.

Arunachal Pradesh recorded 1,084 females born per thousand males, followed by Nagaland (965), Mizoram (964), Kerala (963), and Karnataka (957).

Expressing his happiness on Twitter, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju wrote, “I’m an extremely proud man! My home State, Arunachal Pradesh is the only State in India which has more females born than males in the entire country. With 1,084 females born per 1000 males, we have shown our preference for female child & gender equality.”

After Kiren Rijiju took to social media mentioning Arunachal’s better female birth ratio, State Health Minister Alo Libang speaking on the same lines stated that the census for 2021 is yet to be out.

Libang said that Arunachal Pradesh has the record of giving equal importance to both male and female child. He also informed that there is no sex selection in Arunachal, unlike many other Indian states.

The State Health Minister also spoke on the rate of crimes against women and children in the State with reference to the recent death case wherein a husband was involved in killing his pregnant wife.

The ratio was determined on the basis of data provided by 30 States and Union Territories. The worst was reported in Manipur (757), Lakshadweep (839) and Daman & Diu (877), Punjab (896) and Gujarat (896).
