Ali Aye Ligang today; Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal, Himanta Biswa extends wishes

Ali Aye Ligang, the festival of Mising community which celebrates the commencement of the agrarian season is being celebrated today with with traditional merriment and festive fervour.

Ali Aye Ligang is celebrated on the first Wednesday of Assamese month ‘Fagun’ which falls in February.

On the other hand, two-day Ali Aye Ligang programme has been organised centrally by Directorate of Cultural Affairs, Government of Assam in association with Lakhimpur district administration and the Brihattar Ghunasuti Ali Aye Ligang Celebration Committee at Ghunasuti in Lakhimpur district.

Ghunasuti is the legendary ground of Jonki-Panoi, the epic love story of Rajanikanta Bordoloi’s Miri Jiyari (The Mising Maiden).

Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal is likely to attend the Ali Aye Ligang celebrations at Ghunasuti.

CM Sonowal also took to Twitter to extend his wishes to the Mishing community on the occasion of Ali Aye Ligang.

On the other hand, Assam health, finance and education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma greeted Mising community on Ali Aye Ligang. In a Tweet in the Mising language, Dr. Sarma wished a ‘very happy Ali Aye Ligang.’
