The arrest was made by a joint team of Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles and the Arunachal Pradesh Police
Ahead of the Independence Day celebrations, one United Liberation Front of Asom – I (ULFA – Independent) cadre was arrested in Arunahcal Pradesh.
The arrest was made by a joint team of Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles and the Arunachal Pradesh Police. It is being considered to be a significant breakthrough in the security forces’ ongoing efforts to curtail the activities of the banned militant outfit.
The operation was carried out in the border village of Noglo, Tirap district, on the evening of August 9.
Sources within the security establishment have revealed that the operation was meticulously planned based on reliable intelligence inputs.
The joint team of security forces, acting swiftly, cordoned off the suspected area where the ULFA (I) operative, identified as Self Styled Private Aparajit Nath, alias Pankaj Asom, was reportedly resting. The surprise operation left the cadre with no opportunity to escape or put up resistance.
Preliminary investigations have indicated that the cadre had recently crossed the Indo-Myanmar border, with intentions to infiltrate Assam and carry out subversive activities. Aparajit Nath, a resident of Basbari, Assam, joined the proscribed faction just last year.
