Rs 69 cr Sikkim State Bank fraud: FIR against GM, 2 others

An FIR has been lodged against three senior officials including a General Manager of the State Bank of Sikkim for allegedly embezzling money to the tune of a whopping Rs 69 crore from the bank.
The three senior officials are–Dorjee Tshering Lepcha, General Manager (operations), Tsewang Dorjee Lepcha, Assistant Manager (IT) and Tilak Rai, Sr. Accounts Assistant of the bank.
The three officials were posted at SBS’s head office in Gangtok.
The embezzlement came to light during the bank’s routine check yesterday.
According to the FIR lodged with the Crime Investigation Department (CID) Sikkim Police, the three officers are alleged to have defrauded the bank using various accounts including one government official’s account.
They opened multiple Fixed Deposit (FD) accounts in the name of the government official while investing the remaining misappropriated bank funds in “various immovable and movable assets”.
In response the bank, in the FIR, requested CID Sikkim Police to immediately freeze all movable (Bank Accounts, FDs, Shares, mutual Funds etc. and immovable properties that are recorded in their personal name as well as in the name of their immediate family members.
According to the CID sources, a case has been registered with CID under section 34, 120B, 409, 420 and 477A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) with relevant sections of IT Act 2000.
Meanwhile, SDF Spokesperson Shiva Kumar Timsina has demanded the resignation of the Managing Director of State Bank of Sikkim.
“Managing Director of State Bank of Sikkim must be sacked or he must resign as he is not fit to head the Bank,” he posted on Facebook.
