District administration has termed the bandh as ‘illegal’, Sec 144 has been clamped, mobile internet suspended till 6PM of May 12
Streets of Itanagar, Alo, Seppa and Lemmi of Arunachal Pradesh wore a deserted look this morning following a 3-day bandh called from May 10 to 12 by certain individual groups to protest the APPSC paper leak case. According to sources, Pasighat is likely to participate in the bandh tomorrow.
The Itanagar district administration has termed the bandh as ‘illegal’. Section 144 has been clamped in the Itanagar capital complex which means five or more people cannot gather at one place. People have been prohibited from carrying weapons including dao and machete. Mobile internet services have been suspended till 6PM of May 12.
As a precautionary measure, 14 people including activist Sol Dodum, Tana Tamar Tara, Aam Admi Party leader, Taw Pail, Chairman of Pro Dam Movement, 4 social influencers – Nabam Sanjay, Yowa Bosco, Viral Rabha, Yowa Topu and 7 agitators – Kaku Yarda, Licha Talang, Jidam Riamuk, Gyamar Tayu, Prem Dada, Phassang Kechak and Dangi Pabin, SP SIT Rohit Rajbir Singh and IGP Law and Order Chuku Appa informed.
Earlier, Arunachal Pradesh Home Minister Bamang Felix had expressed serious concerns over shutdowns and agitations and said that these upset the common man’s daily life. Felix said such activities frequently lead to disruption in economic activities and cause loss of property and injury to stakeholders.
“There are peaceful means to highlight attention to any issue,” he said.
Bamang Felix reiterate about the government’s actions taken pertaining to the fulfilment of the 13-point charter of demands as presented by the PAJSC during the all important meeting convened by Chief Minister Pema Khandu on February 18.
“The Government has proactively taken a series of steps to bring reforms in the entire examination system. We have also taken action with reference to almost all issues as decided on 18th Feb 2023. If there was any delay, it is because, we are dependent on some independent agency or because the process is a continuous one,” said the Arunachal Pradesh Home minister.
Felix added, “It is indeed sad that the efforts have not been appreciated by a section of society and they have called a bandh from 10th May.”
