Besides the mobile internet suspension, ahead of the 3-day Itanagar bandh called by some individuals from May 10-12, the district administration has arrested 14 people as a precautionary measure

Ahead of the 3-day Itanagar bandh called by some individuals from May 10-12 to protest against the APPSC paper leak and alleged slow pace of investigation, the Itanagar District Administration has temporarily suspended mobile internet services from 7PM today (May 9) to 6PM of May 12.
As a precautionary measure, the district administration and the police arrested 14 people including activist Sol Dodum, Tana Tamar Tara, Aam Admi Party leader, Taw Pail, Chairman of Pro Dam Movement, 4 social influencers – Nabam Sanjay, Yowa Bosco, Viral Rabha, Yowa Topu and 7 agitators – Kaku Yarda, Licha Talang, Jidam Riamuk, Gyamar Tayu, Prem Dada, Phassang Kechak and Dangi Pabin. This was informed by SP SIT Rohit Rajbir Singh and IGP Law and Order Chuku Appa today at a press briefing held at SP office, Itanagar.
The Arunachal district administration had on Monday declared the proposed bandh call by some individuals on social media platforms ‘illegal’. ICR District Magistrate Talo Potom said, “144 CrPC will be enforced with effect from 10 pm on May 9, and an order has been passed directing license holders to surrender arms. A Flag March would be carried out to raise awareness among citizens and discourage Bandh culture”.
People have been prohibited from carrying all kinds of arms, weapons including dao, machete, or any other lethal weapon within the entire jurisdiction of Itanagar, with immediate effect until further orders.
“Anyone found carrying such a weapon immediately after the enforcement of this order may be booked under the appropriate section of the law,” the official release said.
Earlier, Arunachal Pradesh Home Minister Bamang Felix had expressed serious concerns over shutdowns and agitations and said that these upset the common man’s daily life. Felix said such activities frequently lead to disruption in economic activities and cause loss of property and injury to stakeholders.
