Two persons were killed, while 12 persons including security personnel were injured after fresh violence erupted in Manipur’s Thoubal district today as a mob tried to storm into an IRB camp.

As per reports, trouble started when a mob tried to storm into the IRB camp in the district.

As the mob pelted stones and even used slingshots, security forces resorted to blank firing and tear gas shelling to disperse the crowd, sources said.

A stronger build-up was witnessed around the camp as time progressed forcing the security personnel including the BSF to step up the intensity of the blank firing to disperse the mob.

As per reports, in the retaliatory action, 2 people died while a dozen others including an Army personnel sustained injuries in the stone pelting.

Meanwhile, the mob was looking for ammunition as it stormed the IRB camp, said sources.

People later blocked roads in the area by burning tyres and pipes. As per inputs an Assam Rifles vehicle was also set on fire.

Situations in Manipur continue to remain volatile with incidents of fresh violence being reported almost every day.
