Rape charges: Sri Lanka Cricket Board has suspended batter Danushka Gunathilaka from all forms of cricket. Probe underway.

Sri Lanka Cricket Board has suspended batter Danushka Gunathilaka from all forms of cricket after he was arrested on rape charges. The Sri Lanka cricketer has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman in Australia during his stay in the country during the ongoing T20 World Cup.

The Sri Lanka Cricket Board in a statement said that it will take the necessary steps to promptly carry out an inquiry into the alleged rape charges.

“Upon conclusion of the aforementioned court case in Australia, steps will be taken to penalize the said player if found guilty. Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to emphasize that it adopts a “zero tolerance” policy for any such conduct by a player and will provide all the required support to the Australian law enforcement authorities to carry out an impartial inquiry into the incident,” the statement further read.

Danushka Gunathilaka was arrested in Sydney over alleged charges of rape on Sunday morning.
