CAP said that the politics adopted by the current Sikkim government has created a deep sense of fear and insecurity in the minds of the people
Sikkim’s recently launched opposition party, Citizen Action Party (CAP) is not happy with the law and order situation of the state. A team of CAP leaders headed by its working president Lakpa Sherpa called on Governor Lakshman Acharya on Tuesday and submitted a memorandum highlighting multiple issues relating to the law and order situation in the Himalaya state.
In the memorandum, the Party alleged that the law and order situation in Sikkim has deteriorated and that the politics adopted by the current Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) led state government has created a deep sense of fear and insecurity in the minds of people.
The party urged the Governor to take urgent steps to improve the law and order situation in the state.
CAP said that the attack on the General Secretary of Joint Action Council (JAC) during a peaceful rally in Singtam on 8th April 2023 has left a scar in the minds of Sikkimese public. However, even after a lapse of more than 3 months, the perpetrators of violence have not been brought to book and the law breakers are still at large.
Talking about the recent rape and murder cases of minor girls in the state, CAP said that despite such grave nature of the case, police investigation report of the crimes still remains beyond public knowledge.
Additionally, the party said that the mysterious death of student leader Padam Gurung has shaken up the whole state.
“It is learnt from media reports that late Padam Gurung was handed over a huge amount of money in cash by the leader of a political party. It is stated that possession of such a huge amount of money in cash with late Padam Gurung was the root cause of altercation that erupted among students, leading to this mysterious death of such a promising student leader. It is very unfortunate that, today even after lapse of more than two weeks, police investigation has not yielded any noteworthy result in the case so far,” CAP added.
