Along congratulated Congress’s SS Jamir and hoped he would make voices of the Naga people heard in the Parliament.
Nagaland cabinet minister and BJP leader Temjen Imna Along today congratulated PM-designate Narendra Modi who is all set to be sworn-in for a third term tomorrow and said that this time development in Nagaland along with rest of India will be on a much higher trajectory.
“The NDA government led by PM Narendra Modi has come back for the third time as Modi 3.0. I want to congratulate all our NDA partners together with the visionary Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Things are going to change. The trajectory to take India towards a Viksit Bharat (Developed India) will be resounding in this tenure. We want to congratulate Narendra Modi under whose leadership a new vision of a strong India, of a united India and a developed India will continue even in the years to come,” Along said.
Accepting defeat in the just concluded Lok Sabha polls in Nagaland Along congratulated Congress’s S Supongmeren Jamir who won the lone Nagaland seat defeating ruling NDPP’s Chumben Murry who was supported by BJP and its allies and hoped that Jamir will work together with the BJP-led NDA government to realise the Naga people’s hopes and aspirations and ensure that the Naga peoples’ voices are heard in Parliament.
Speaking to Northeast Live, Temjen Imna Along said, “We know how electioneering has been conducted in Nagaland. We know how the Congress party has campaigned in Nagaland. Nevertheless, we including myself are responsible for our defeat. Also I would like to congratulate S Supongmeren Jamir, the Congress candidate who has become a member of the Lok Sabha. I wish and pray that Supongmeren Jamir will stand up together with the people of the state and also with the government and work together to allow the needs and also the aspirations of the Naga people being heard at the Parliament.”
Worth mentioning that, it was nothing less than a shocker as the Congress which does not have a single member in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly managed to win the Lok Sabha polls in the state.
Many thought that the grand old party was finding it difficult to find even a single candidate to contest from the lone seat in the state, and Nagaland Congress President S Supongmeren Jamir himself chose to contest the polls.
Supongmeren Jamir polled 4,01,951 votes while Chumben Murry secured 3,50,967 votes.
