Under this initiative, villagers were given training in making juice, pickles, chips, candies, and other products.
Fighting drugs with a livelihood – a village in Nagaland has been following this mantra to spread awareness on healthy living and stay away from drug addiction. What you see on your screen are the visuals of Noklak located along the Indo-Myanmar border.
In a unique initiative, the Taste of Noklak Society or TONS along with Noklak SP office has been providing training in livelihood to villagers and Self Help Groups on regular basis.
Under this initiative, villagers were given training in making juice, pickles, chips, candies, and other products.
Let us take the example of Lengyu village where farmers and 9 SHGs were given Food processing training at the TONS office.
Lengyu village is rich in many fruit products. However, owing to a lack of training, the fruits are wasted at times. This is where the villagers were given training in juice making.
Earlier, similar training was given to the farmers of Pangsha village, Yokao village, and Kingniu village by TONS and Noklak Police.
SP Noklak Dr Pritpal Kaur stated that the training is a holistic approach towards Society Empowerment where both males and females learn the skills and later make teams work together with the concept of division of labor – right from farming to food processing and marketing.
She added that this not only helps the farmers to be empowered but also helps school dropouts and youngsters in search of employment to get engaged in entrepreneurship.
SP Pritpal stressed that the aim was to help every society or SHG to teach another society by spreading the training and thereby contributing to the holistic development of the district.
