The Tapi assembly seat fell vacant following the demise of sitting NDPP MLA Noke Wangnao on August 28

The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and the Congress are all set to face each other at the by-elections for the Tapi assembly constituency in Nagaland’s Mon district, scheduled for November 7.

NDPP announced Wangpang Konyak as its candidate and the Congress announced Wanglem Konyak as its candidate for the Tapi seat.

Wangpang Konyak was given a party ticket by the NDPP on Tuesday. NDPP president Chingwang Konyak, handing over the party ticket to Wangpang, urged his party workers to support Wangpang and work hard to make him the winner.

Wanglem Konyak, who recently joined Congress, contested the 2023 State Assembly elections on a NPF ticket and lost to NDPP candidate Wangnao by a margin of 82 votes.

Wangpang, who holds a master’s degree in political science from North East Hills University, Shillong, promised that if elected to power, he would work for the development of not only his constituency but his entire state.

The Tapi assembly seat fell vacant following the demise of sitting NDPP MLA Noke Wangnao on August 28.

Meanwhile, two former candidates from JD (U) and the National People’s Party have decided not to contest the by-elections in support of the NDPP candidate. Both had contested the state assembly elections in February this year.
