The 11-member ENPO delegation has been camping in New Delhi since Thursday. Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio too reached the national capital for the meeting
The meeting between the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation or ENPO talk team with Union Home Minister Amit Shah has been postponed. The meet which was set to be held yesterday (Dec 3) was postponed as Home Minister Shah was pre-occupied due to the ongoing Assembly elections in Gujarat. As per sources, the meeting is now likely to be held today or after the last phase of Gujarat polls tomorrow, Dec 5.
It may be mentioned that the 11-member ENPO delegation which includes the talk team members have been camping in New Delhi since Thursday for the crucial meet. Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio had also landed in the national capital yesterday afternoon for the meeting.
The ENPO delegation was all set to meet Union Home Minister Shah to discuss their demand for a separate state – Frontier Nagaland.
The ENPO which represents 7 tribes of 6 eastern districts of Nagaland has been demanding a separate Frontier Nagaland state since 2010 over alleged lack of development in the area.
The Frontier Nagaland demand gained momentum in the last few months with the ENPO calling for a boycott of all elections till the time their demand is met. Not only this, in a first, the 7 eastern tribes are also boycotting the Hornbill Festival, one of the biggest and most popular festivals of Nagaland. With the abstention of the Eastern tribes, the traditional morungs or huts of the 7 constituent tribes wore a deserted look at the ongoing fest.
