Nagaland Guv speaks on Naga issue, ENPO’s statehood demand in inaugural address of 14th Assembly Session

Nagaland Governor La Ganesan today said that his government will be pro-active as far as finding a solution to the vexed Naga political issue is concerned.

Delivering his address in the first session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Governor La Ganesan also emphasized on the government being playing the role of an active facilitator and said,”My Government will be pro-active and continue playing the role of a sincere and active facilitator for strengthening the ongoing peace process for bringing an early solution.”

The Nagaland Governor further said that his government always backs an honourable, acceptable and inclusive solution. He said,”We remain committed of not coming in the way of an agreement that is arrived at through the peace process that is honourable, acceptable, and inclusive.”

While stating that the Nagaland government is mindful of the long pending unresolved Naga political issue, which has impacted every sphere of the society, Governor La Ganesan said,”Our people, the society at large, owing to the unique challenges and constraints created by the decades long unresolved Political Issue, has not been able to fully grow and realize their fullest potential that they would have otherwise. In some or the other, the smooth march of the State on the path development and prosperity has been affected.”

The Governor in his speech also mentioned about the ENPO’s statehood demand. In this regard, the Governor informed,”I am happy to say that the Government of India has taken initiative initiative in this regard and through a team constituted by the Ministry of Home Affairs is holding consultations with the Eastern Organization for a harmonious and sustainablero resolution of the entire matter.”

Governor La Ganesan in a clear message assured that the Nagaland government will duely assist in the entire process. He said,”My Government is committed to assist the entire process so that all of us move together for suitably addressing the grievances of the people of the areas of districts of Eastern Nagaland, and bridge the development deficit and bring these areas on par witht the rest of the State at the earliest possible.”

Besides, the Governor also spoke on the law and order situation in the state.

“My Government remains committed for ensuring the maintenance of law and order and peaceful atmosphere in the State. We will continue taking steps for strengthening and improving the infrastructure and capabilities of our district administration, police and security agencies so as to make them better equipped to handle their duties and responsibilities efficiently and effectively. The proactive management of Law and Order with better Police Public Partnership is a way forward in our society which has strong societal bonds. The State Police shall also endeavour to improve the forensic capabilities for scientific investigation, better presentation of evidence before court of law and to and enhance conviction rate,” Governor La Ganesan said.

Mentioning about improving the health infrastructure in the state, Governor La Ganesan informed that all out efforts are being made to fully establish the Medical College at Kohima and start it from the academic year 2023-2024.

“We are also taking up with the Overnment of India for converting it into a Central Institute Such as the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) at Imphal, or as an AlIMS like Institute, which would help it to grow further, provide sustainability, as well as address the various capacity constraints,” the Nagaland Governor added.
