Mizoram: Huge consignment of exotic animal, birds recovered, 2 arrested

The Assam Rifles has intensified the crackdown on smuggling of exotic animals in Mizoram. As part of these operations, AR troopers seized a consignment of exotic animals and birds worth Rs 68.40 lakh.
The seizure was made at the DC Complex Road, Champhai district.
Two persons identified as Vanlalthlana and Vachhonia have been arrested in connection with the case.
A total of 49 smuggled animals and birds were recovered from the clutches of the smugglers.
The consignment included-
10 Solomon Cockatoo
2 Narnoset Monkey
9 Lizard Species
2 Pesauet’s Parrot
17 Snake & Lizard
9 Turtle Species
The exotic animals and birds were hidden inside iron cages and plastic baskets and were being brought from Zokhawthar to Aizawl side.
In March last year, 17 exotic wildlife species, smuggled through Myanmar, were rescued in Mizoram. As many as 17 exotic wildlife species including 13 birds and four spider monkeys, suspected to be smuggled through Myanmar, were recovered.
