In some schools, Rs 600 is being borne by the state government for purchase of the common uniform
Students of Mizoram government schools would wear common school uniforms as prescribed by the state school education department from Wednesday, April 5, when the new academic session begins in the state.
School education department officials said that district education officers and sub-divisional education officers in all the districts have been asked to ensure that all the students of government-run schools should wear prescribed common school uniforms right from day one.
“We have also instructed the district education department officials to conduct inspections of schools whether the teachers enforce the instructions of the state government,” an official said.
In some schools, Rs 600 is being borne by the state government for purchase of the common uniform for each student.
In other cases, the teachers contributed money to pay for the uniform for their students, while some teachers even travelled to neighboring states to purchase clothes for common uniform of their students at cheaper rates.
Earlier, state school education officials had said that the common school uniform was introduced to ensure equality among the students, for identification of primary, middle and high school/higher secondary school students, maintenance of better discipline and procurement of uniforms at cheaper rates.
Officials said that students of government schools will not require to buy another uniform even when their parents are transferred to other cities or villages within the state.
Except for the pants/skirts and shirts, for which specifications are already notified separately for primary, middle and high school students, different schools can have their own badges, t-shirts and neckties.
