Necessary instructions have been given to the construction company to further expedite the works, CM Conrad said.

Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma today said that the new Meghalaya Legislative Assembly building will be inaugurated soon. The CM inspected the almost ready Assembly building.

Taking stock of the situation, CM Sangma instructed the concerned agencies to expedite the remaining work.

Informing about his visit to the site, CM Sangma in a post on X said, “Inspected the nearly completed Meghalaya Legislative Assembly building at Mawdiangdiang in presence of Speaker Thomas Sangma, Deputy Speaker Timothy D Shira, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and Sniawbhalang Dhar.
The progress of work is in advance stage and should be ready for inauguration soon. Necessary instructions have been given to the construction company to further expedite the works.”

The dome of the under-construction Meghalaya Assembly building at Mawdiangdiang in the New Shillong Township had collapsed on May 22.

If reports are to be believed, the dome had collapsed due to its dead weight and lack of coordination between the designers and the contractors working on the project.

The High-Powered Committee (HPC) of the Meghalaya Legislative Committee had sought an explanation from the designers and the contractors.
