Security sources claimed that there is maximum possibility that some of the gunmen who attacked the forces could be from Myanmar

Have gunmen from Myanmar illegally entered Indian Territory and attacked security forces in Moreh today?

Well, security agencies in Manipur have begun an investigation to ascertain whether the heavily armed miscreants who attacked the security forces today with sniper rifles and advanced weapons in Moreh were militants from outside the country.

Security sources claimed that there is maximum possibility that some of the gunmen who attacked the forces could be from Myanmar. Four to five suspects have been detained for questioning, as told by sources.

Notably, situation is highly volatile in the cosmopolitan town of Moreh, situated along the Indo-Myanmar border where mobs had gone on a rampage this morning, burning government offices and private establishments, including residences, including the residence of a journalist.

Security forces comprising the Assam Rifles, BSF and the police managed to clear the town of the mob around afternoon.

After the mob was dispersed, the security forces engaged in the combing operations to neutralise the armed men who were firing at them from safe positions with snipers and other weapons.

A temporary BSF camp located at Moreh College faced a sniper attack, according to security officials.

Tengnoupal SP Luikham Lanmeo said the shootout finally stopped around 3:30 PM.

The SP said the security forces could save lives today and there were no casualties.

However, several government properties have been set ablaze including the forest guest house, electricity guest house, and office of Moreh wildlife sanctuary.

However, locals claimed that trouble erupted in border town Moreh after security forces thrashed innocent women who went out for marketing during curfew relaxation hours. The incident triggered heated argument between the women folk and security forces.

Angered by the action of security forces, women blocked the road at Moreh bazar and then vandalised some houses which were used by the security forces.

The women also torched some houses where security forces were stationed. The security forces fired several rounds of tear gas shells to disperse the agitating mob.

Manipur police commando also came out of their complex and fired several live rounds towards the agitators following which village Defence Volunteers also reportedly opened fire, the locals claimed.
