Manipur unrest: Multiple incidents of firing in Bishnupur district; arms, ammunition recovered

Security forces soon swung into action to repel the armed miscreants who were trying destabilize peace in the Bishnupur district

Multiple incidents of firing were reported from Manipur’s Bishnupur district as armed groups involved in heavy exchange of gunfire last evening.

As per information shared by Manipur Police in Twitter, the firing incidents took place at Mualngat, Terakhongsangbi areas, Gothol, Pholjang and Kwakta Ward No. 8 areas.

However, alert security forces deployed in the area retaliated and drove back the armed gunmen.

Besides, a heavy cache of arms, ammunition and explosives were recovered during search operations in the adjoining areas after the gunfight.

The items recovered include:
(a) 303 Rif- 02
(b) 51 mm Mor- 01
(c) Tear Gas Gun – 01
(d) Smoke Candle- 17
(e) CM Mag- 03
(f) Tear Gas rds – 10
(g) Tear Gas (Hand grenade)- 09
(h) Rubber Bullet rds – 332
(k) 12 Bore Rif- 04
(l) Muzzle loaded rif- 01

On the other hand, the Manipur Police also informed that appropriate security measures are in place to ensure movement of vehicles carrying essential items to the violence affected state.

The Manipur Police in a Tweet informed, “Movement of 260 (two hundred sixty) vehicles on NH-37 and 310 (three hundred ten) vehicles on NH-2 with essential items have been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles.”
