9 killed in fresh violence in Manipur’s Khamenlok village

It is the biggest single casualty reported in a single incident from Manipur in the last few weeks

The situation remains volatile in the trouble torn Manipur, as nine people were killed in an intense firing reported from Khamenlok village under Saikul Assembly constituency in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district on Wednesday.

As per sources, 4–5 people are reportedly missing after the firing incident, and several others are injured. However, the identities of the deceased are yet to be disclosed by the army officials.

It is the biggest single casualty reported in a single incident from Manipur in the last few weeks.

The firing at Khamenlok began at around 10.30 pm on Tuesday and continued until past midnight. The bodies of the deceased were recovered at 3 am this morning.

The bodies of the deceased are kept at two hospital morgues in the state.

The condition of the injured cannot yet be confirmed by the hospital authorities.

The firing incident was reported despite the presence of more than 40,000 army and paramilitary troops, along with the state police in the state.

Khamenlok has around 25 households and is adjacent to Khopibung, the frontline village in the area.
