The Kuki Students’ Organisation Churachandpur, Zomi Students’ Federation stopped a land survey that was being conducted by the Manipur Forest and Revenue Department officials at Sielmat village in Manipur’s Churachandpur district on Tuesday and forced the officials to leave the village.
The student organizations objected to the survey as it was being done without the consent from the village chief and the concerned village authorities.
As soon as the student organizations learnt that the land survey was being done without the consent of the village chief, they immediately reached the site and stopped the survey.
Reportedly, when the officials were questioned as to why the survey was being carried out, they could not give any satisfactory answers.
The student bodies also asked the officials to produce instructions or a notice for carrying out the survey. The officials said that the instructions or notice were with the RO.
The officials also informed the student leaders that they were instructed to cross-check the geo-coordinate points of the Khoupum Protected Forest area.
As per the officials, the survey had already been completed in three villages, including Bungmual, Pearsonmun, and Headquarter Veng.
