Responding to queries in the Assam Legislative Assembly, Border Protection and Development Minister Atul Bora provided a breakdown of the disputed land areas, highlighting the extent of territorial claims by neighbouring states.

Assam Border Protection and Development Minister Atul Bora said that Nagaland claims the largest portion, disputing 12,882.66 sq. km in Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Golaghat, Karbi Anglong, and Dima Hasao districts.

Meghalaya lays claim to 2,732.14 sq. km, covering 12 specific areas in Kamrup, West Karbi Anglong, and Cachar districts.

Mizoram contests 839.09 sq. km, primarily in Cachar and Hailakandi districts.

Additionally, while responding to questions raised by Congress MLA Abdur Rashid Mandal in the state assembly, the Minister defended the government’s efforts in strengthening border security and development.

Replying to the MLA’s concerns regarding the number of Border Outposts (BOPs), force deployment, and disputed lands along Assam’s borders with neighbouring states, Minister Atul Bora said that Assam has 127 Inter-State Border Outposts and 14 International Border Outposts. These are guarded by 26 companies and 2.5 platoons of Assam Police Battalion, along with 12 companies of CRPF personnel.

For international borders, 42 ex-servicemen/DEF personnel and 76 Assam Police Battalion personnel are deployed, he said.
