“The number of violent incidents has decreased by 70 per cent from 11,000 between 2004 and 2014 to 3,428 between 2014 and 2024,” Shah said.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah today said that except for the violence in Manipur, the rest of Northeast is experiencing complete peace today.

Addressing the North-East Students’ and Youth Parliament organised by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), HM Shah said that in just 10 years, Northeast has transformed into a completely peaceful region.

“The number of violent incidents has decreased by 70 per cent from 11,000 between 2004 and 2014 to 3,428 between 2014 and 2024,” Shah said.

Additionally, the number of security force fatalities has dropped by 70 per cent, while civilian deaths have reduced by 89 per cent over the past decade.

Shah also pointed out that the Centre has 12 signed important agreements in last ten years with all armed groups and more than 10,500 insurgents have laid down their arms and joined the mainstream across the Northeast.

“I want to tell you that the total number of visits of all the Prime Ministers to the Northeast since independence is 21, except Assam, and the number of visits of Narendra Modi alone to the Northeast is 78, which shows how much importance has been given to the Northeast,” Shah said.

Talking on the investment push in North East, Home Minister Shah made mention of the Rs 2,700 crore semiconductor project in Assam, alongside a massive Rs 2.5 lakh crore investment in the Northeast.

He assured the youth that within the next 10 years, no child or youth from the region would need to leave for work elsewhere, as employment opportunities would be available within the Northeast.

He further added that every capital in northeast India would be connected by rail, road, and air within the next two years.

“The biggest achievement of the BJP government is that it has reduced the distance between the Northeast and the rest of India. By 2027, every capital of the Northeast will be connected by train, plane, and road,” the Home Minister said.
