Manipur, Meghalaya, Tripura celebrates Statehood Day today, PM sends in wishes

PM Modi wished for development, progress and harmony in the three states

Three northeastern states – Meghalaya, Manipur and Tripura are celebrating their statehood day today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sent his greetings to the three states on the occasion and wished for development, progress and harmony in the three states.

All the states were granted statehood on January 21, 1972 during the tenure of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi under the North Eastern Region (Reorganisation) Act, 1971.

The states are celebrating their 52nd Statehood Day today.

Yesterday a programme was held in Tura which was attended by Meghalaya Governor Phagu Chauhan to celebrate Meghalaya’s Statehood Day. Chief Minister Conrad Sangma was the Guest of Honour.

Greeting the state on this occasion, PM Modi wrote- ” Happy Statehood Day to the people of Meghalaya! Today is an occasion to celebrate the incredible culture of Meghalaya and the achievements of the people there. May Meghalaya scale new heights of progress in the times to come.”

Sending his wishes to trouble-torn Manipur, the PM wrote, “On Manipur’s Statehood Day, my best wishes to the people of the state. Manipur has made a strong contribution to India’s progress. We take pride in the culture and traditions of the state. I pray for the continued development of Manipur.”

The PM wished for prosperity and harmony for the people of Tripura. In his tweet wishing the state, the PM wrote, “Heartfelt wishes on Statehood Day to the people of Tripura. May this day celebrate the unique history and rich heritage of the state. Wishing prosperity and harmony to the people of Tripura.”
