Manipur: Landslide In Tamenglong Kills Mother-Son Duo, Father Critically Injured

A devastating landslide struck Dimthanlong village in Manipur’s Tamenglong Ward No. 3 last evening, killing a mother and her child and leaving the father, a police constable, critically injured.

As per reports, the landslide has also disrupted traffic movement, as National Highway 37, connecting Imphal with Jiribam, has been completely severed from the rest of the region.

Multiple landslides along the highway, triggered by relentless rainfall since last night, have cut off connectivity to Tamenglong. In addition to the highway closure, the constant rain has caused widespread disruptions in the Noney district including power cuts.

Landslides also occurred between Nungba and Rengpang villages along NH-37, where a portion of the tarred road was washed away into a gorge between Taodaijang and Rengpang villages on the Bishnupur-Khoupum-Rengpang Road (Tongei Maril/Old Cachar Road). Residents estimate that it will take several days to clear the road.

More landslides were reported along NH-37 near K. Sinam village, exacerbating the transportation challenges in the affected areas.
