Manipur: Is Biren Singh govt resigning soon? NDA MLAs in a huddle in New Delhi: Sources

First Published: 28th June, 2024 19:06 IST

As per sources, NPP, NPF and JD-U MLAs are arriving in New Delhi to meet political leaders and see if they are supporting the demand for an integrated Manipur

Manipur might be rocked by a big political development. Speculations are rife that the N Biren Singh government might tender its resignation soon.

According to sources, ruling party BJP’s MLAs and MLAs of ally parties NPP, NPF and JDU have started arriving in New Delhi in batches to meet political leaders across the spectrum and tell them whether they are going to support the demand for an integrated Manipur or whether they are going to support those people, who they allege are actually helping migrants from across the border in Myanmar.

This is the issue with which they are going to meet BJP leaders and other NDA partners and make their views known. They are going to come back to Imphal and there is a pressure building on the ministers and MLAs from their respective constituencies as well as the frontal organisations because of their inability to resolve the burning issue in Manipur.

CM Biren Singh had chaired a meeting of all the NDA MLAs at the cabinet hall in Imphal yesterday. In that meeting it was decided that support of the central government is needed to resolve the issues in Manipur.

“If the central government does not support, it becomes very untenable for those in power in state to continue like this. There has been intense pressure on the MLAs from the respective constituencies besides the frontal organisations to either deliver or perish. In this situation the general consensus is that make one last trip to New Delhi, explain their point of view and come back and possibly resign,” sources privy to the developments said.
