Over 10,000 people from various parts of the state, participated in the rally. Various civil society organizations, clubs and organizations from different valley districts of the state, extended support to the rally.
Notably, two MLAs, Nishikant Sapam and Thangjam Arun, participated in the rally. Leaders from the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee were also present.
Independent MLA from the Imphal valley Nishikant Sapam today took a veiled dig at the N Biren Singh Government in the state, stating that there have been flaws in the administration.
Taking part in a mega peace rally in Imphal organsied by the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity or the COCOMI, Keisamthong MLA, Nishikant Sapam said that the strife has been going on for too long and Chief Minister N Biren Singh will be the right person to spell out the reason for it.
“I think there has been flaws in the administration. So if I am to sit as one of the representatives of the government and if I am asked that so many guns were taken away, you are not really in a position to answer. Because I think this (violence) has taken too long. There must have been peace talks, there must have been talks in the government at various levels. I think the right person to answer this is the Chief Minister and the cabinet. I am an independent MLA, I just support Manipur from the core of my heart. I am probably like anyone of us, just to support Manipur out of our love for Manipur,” Nishikant Sapam said.
The independent MLA also called for peace and said that the territorial integrity of the state shall never be compromised.
“Today we have come here, this is to Save Manipur. All of us have gathered here totally in love with Manipur. We stand here to make sure that Manipur never breaks down. I believe that Manipur is just not a land, it is a culture, it is a being of togetherness between the hill people and the valley people. We all need to live together and this whole land, every inch of it belongs to all of us,” Nishikant maintained.
