Manipur Govt to release ATSUM leaders; Economic blockade to be lifted

The state government has reached an agreement with the All Tribal Students Union Manipur or ATSUM to lift the ongoing economic blockade.

A major breakthrough has been achieved as far as the indefinite protest over the non-tabling of ADC bill 2021 and the arrest of ATSUM leaders is concerned.

The state government has reached an agreement with the All Tribal Students Union Manipur or ATSUM to lift the ongoing economic blockade.

The government has agreed to release the top leaders of the ATSUM who are currently in judicial custody following which the ATSUM will call off the economic blockade.

This was informed to Northeast Live Editor in Chief Wasbir Hussain by Manipur Tribal Affairs and Hills minister Letpao Haokip who is also a member of the HAC.

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Biren Singh met Tribal Affairs Minister Letpao Haokip, Hills Area Committee Chairman Dinganglung Gangmei, and other top officials of the state to deliberate on the ATSUM sponsored Economic blockade.

After the meeting, it was informed that an understanding has been reached with the ATSUM to lift the economic blockade while the leaders will also be released.
