In a strongly worded message, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has termed the recent attacks on security personnel in the state as a grave threat to the national security.

Highly concerned over a series of attacks on security personnel in the past few days, Chief Minister N Biren Singh chaired a high level meeting in Imphal last night to deliberate on the course of action to deal with the situation.

The meeting was attended by his cabinet ministers, BJP MLAs, state BJP president A Sharda Devi as well as other party workers.

In a post on X, CM N Biren Singh also highlighted the fact that the security forces must urgently come up with a more robust approach to deal with such anti-social elements.

The Manipur Chief Minister also informed that a party delegation will be soon meeting the central leaders to raise the matter and find ways to deal with it.

CM N Biren Singh in his post said, “The unprecedented attacks against the state forces in the recent times have become a serious national security threat. While the state and central security forces are actively engaged in maintaining control over the situation, it is also imperative for the combined security forces to adopt a robust and comprehensive approach to deal with these elements, who are relentlessly attempting to destabilise the state of Manipur.

A team of combined security forces was conducting patrols in and around Moreh when it came under attack from armed men with automatic weapons and bombs. Heavy cross firing ensued as armed men opened fire at the security forces.

Despite the imposition of curfew, gunfight took place near the India-Myanmar border and its neighbouring areas.

On December 30, a Manipur police team came under attack today as armed miscreants triggered 3 to 4 blasts and opened fire on the team at Moreh. One policeman was injured in the attack.

Later at night RPGs were reportedly fired on police commandos. Four security personnel received injuries in the incident. The attack took place at the security barracks when the personnel were sleeping. The four were rushed to the Assam Rifles hospital.
