Has peace in Manipur become a far-fetched dream? After vandalism and arson, armed miscreants have now allegedly resorted to car bombs. In yet another sensational incident of reported violence, armed militants allegedly exploded a car bomb at Kwakta in Manipur’s Bishnupur district late last evening leaving many people, including two minors, severely injured. Some are also feared dead, confirmation is awaited.
As per sources, a suspected IED was planted inside a SUV parked near a culvert located between Kwakta Ward number 7 and Phou-gak-chao. Around three persons were reported seen getting off from the vehicle moments before the blast.
It is learnt that the explosion completely destroyed the vehicle and sent its parts flying, injuring those present at the spot. In fact, if the claims made by locals are anything to go by, the impact of the explosion was so severe that it shook buildings located up to 100-meter radius from where the explosion took place.
Teams of Manipur Police and security forces rushed to the spot to bring things under control. The injured were shifted to the Bishnupur district hospital.
Meanwhile, additional security forces have been deployed in the area, police sources said.
