‘Will shift Anand to AIIMS New Delhi if necessary, will help Anand in future: DU VC Hazarika

Dibrugarh University Vice Chancellor Prof Jiten Hazarika said this morning that if necessary ragging victim Anand Sharma, a junior student of the University would be shifted to AIIMS, New Delhi by air ambulance.
“With the help of the government, we will arrange for air ambulance to shift Anand to AIIMS, New Delhi, tomorrow. If his family, the doctors attending on him give us the permission then we on behalf of the University are willing to do this,” VC Hazarika told media persons in Dibrugarh after visiting Anand in the hospital.
Earlier interacting with Anand’s mother, VC Hazarika assured help and said that he will continue to help Anand in his personal capacity in future.
Anand, a M. Com 1st semester student of the Commerce Department of the University in eastern Assam was brutally tortured by senior students of the University forcing him to jump off the second floor of his hostel to escape his torturers. He is undergoing treatment in ICU since November 26 midnight.
Anand has received grievous injuries in his upper body, particularly his spinal cord and is undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Dibrugarh.
Attending doctors said that he needs immediate surgery, or else he might not be able to walk for life. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has assured all help for his treatment.
So far four students involved in the ragging incident have been arrested by police — Simanta Hazarika, Niranjan Thakur, Pranjit Baruah, and Subhrajit Baruah.
Police hunt is on to nab Rahul Chetry, the main accused and ex-student of the University.
Additional SP (HQ) Bitul Chetia said that 4 special teams have been formed and sent to various directions to nab Chetry. A total of 15 students have been identified by the police.
Three wardens of PNGB hostel have been suspended.
The University has suspended four students – Dibyajyoti Gogoi, Subhrajit Baruah, Niranjon Thakur and Kalyan Dutta from attending classes till the magisterial and institutional enquiries are over. They have been prohibited from entering the University premises too.
A magisterial enquiry into the case is underway and a report is likely to be filed in a day or two. University’s Registrar, Dean and Chief Warden deposed before ADC and Magistrate Sanghamitra Baruah conducting the probe.
