DU Ragging Victim Anand’s Friend Alleges PG Students Union GS Involved, Police Records Statement

Dibrugarh Police recorded the statement of Dibrugarh University Post Graduate Students Union (DUPGSU) Ankur Bora who is alleged to be involved in the ragging incident at the state-run University in eastern Assam.
A close friend of Anand Sharma, the victim of the ragging incident, told Northeast Live that Anand had told him and other close friends and family that Ankur Bora had allegedly snatched his phone when he was being physically assaulted by the seniors.
The police recorded Bora’s statement this morning. His statement was recorded under section 143 CrPC which is related to unlawful assembly. Till now he has not been arrested, informed Raju Chetry, Officer-in-Charge of Dibrugarh Sadar Police Station.
Anand, a M. Com 1st semester student of the Commerce Department of the University in eastern Assam was brutally tortured by senior students of the University forcing him to jump off the second floor of his hostel to escape his torturers.
Anand has received grievous injuries in his upper body, particularly his spinal cord and is undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Dibrugarh. He is in ICU. Attending doctors said that he needs immediate surgery, else he might not be able to walk for life. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has assured all help for his treatment.
A short while back, University VC Dr Jiten Hazarika visited Anand in the hospital.
So far four students involved in the ragging incident have been arrested by police — Simanta Hazarika, Niranjan Thakur, Pranjit Baruah, and Subhrajeet Baruah. Police hunt is on to nab Rahul Chety, the main accused and ex-student of the University. A total of 15 students have been identified by the police.
A magisterial enquiry into the case is underway and a report is likely to be filed in a day or two. University’s Registrar, Dean and Chief Warden deposed before ADC and Magistrate Sanghamitra Baruah conducting the probe.
